Ingredient Lists

Ingredient lists – what do they mean? What’s all the fuss about?

We all know a quick glance at cosmetic ingredient lists can leave us feeling very confused, so why bother looking at them? I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I used to pick up what I fancied from the skincare counter…mainly based on what would look pretty on my dressing table, came recommended by the glamorous counter girl and what possible freebies I could get my hands on (always great for those overnight breaks away, right)?!

Ingredient lists never really crossed my mind. If the product made me feel and look good, it was money well spent in my view.

Things changed! Little Tom came along and Artio Skincare naturally followed.

Did you know it takes only 26 seconds for chemicals to be absorbed through the skin and enter our bloodstream? Babies’ skin is three times thinner than adults’ skin, so it absorbs a lot more chemicals.

Ingredient lists are important. We clearly need to know what we’re putting on our skin (and our children’s skin) but why do they have to be so confusing?

In a nutshell, under European Legislation, all cosmetic products must list their ingredients in their INCI form, which means that each ingredient has a set name. This makes sure ingredients are consistent and identifiable for all consumers across the cosmetic industry. For example, Shea Butter is listed as Butyrospermum Parkii.

Getting to know ingredients in their INCI form can be hard. Let’s be honest, we’re busy mamas who don’t have time to be learning long, unpronounceable names. I certainly know after having a baby my memory isn’t what it used to be! Will it ever recover?

We’ve taken ingredient lists on board and followed the rules of course, but to help you make sense of it all, we’ve added the everyday names of our 100% natural ingredients too. That way you know exactly what you’re getting at a glance.

Every order comes complete with our beautiful Artio booklet – clearly setting out the full ingredient list for all our products – giving you the peace of mind of knowing exactly what you’re putting on your skin – and your baby’s skin.

Ingredient transparency is something we’re very proud of – with pure, natural, plant-based ingredients at the heart of everything we do. We believe everyone has the right to understand exactly what they’re buying – without having to wonder ‘what does it all mean?’.

To protect the planet, and the freshness and clarity of our ingredients, our products are simply packaged in recyclable, reusable paper and glass, designed to look and feel beautiful, so they’ll look wonderful on your dressing table or bathroom shelf too!
